Book presentation and conference "Multilocality - quo vadis?“

On the 18 September 2020 two closely connected events on multilocality research took place in Dortmund: On the one hand a conference of the Network Multilocality, which was organized in cooperation with the ILS – Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development and the ARL – Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association, and on the other hand the book presentation of the compendium "Multilocal living and spatial development" published by the ARL.

With almost 20 participants on site in the Dortmund Lensing-Carrée and another 20 virtually connected interested attendees, a look into the future was taken against the background of theoretical, conceptual, methodological and empirical work in the field of multilocality research. The first session focused on quantitative findings and spatial implications of multilocal living. Following an insight into the contribution of philosophical anthropology to research on multilocal lifestyles. The second session focused on international developments and perspectives.

After the summary and an outlook on future developments and research contents, the book presentation of the compendium "Multilocal living and spatial development" (published as ARL Research Report 13 and available in the shop on the ARL website) followed. The compendium is the essential result of an ARL Working Group of the same name, which was headed by Rainer Danielzyk and Christine Weiske. Carmella Pfaffenbach (RWTH Aachen) honored the compendium with a very positive commentary. Afterwards, the contents as well as chances and challenges of multilocality research were discussed with the editors Andrea Dittrich-Wesbuer, Nicola Hilti and Conny Tippel.
