International symposium on land use challenges in European metropolitan regions in Berlin
On 6 and 7 May 2026, the international symposium “Land use challenges in European Metropolitan Regions – exchanging promising spatial planning approaches” will take place in Berlin. Hosted by the Joint Spatial Planning Department Berlin-Brandenburg, the event addresses spatial planning professionals from across European metropolitan regions.
The symposium focuses on increasing land use pressures driven by housing demand, economic development, and ongoing energy, transport and climate transitions. At the same time, the concept of “no net land take” is gaining importance, raising new questions for planning and governance.
