5th Halle Forum on Urban Economic Growth

Location: Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), Conference Hall, Kleine Maerkerstraße 8, Halle (Saale), Germany
The Halle Forum on Urban Economic Growth – established in 2006 – has the aim to bring together original economic and interdisciplinary papers that cast some light on new developments in theoretical and empirical research on economic growth and development in urban environments. The Forum should also give PhD students an opportunity for presenting and discussing their research results. Papers may focus on issues like
- Cities and creative quarters as seedbeds for innovation
- Urban infrastructure and the accessibility of cities
- European and national policies for urban development
- Measurement of urban development
- The impact of formal and informal institutions on the development of cities and metropolitan regions
- The role of metropolitan regions as nodes in the network of global cities
- The relationship between cities within polycentric metropolitan regions
The 5th Halle Forum is organized by the IWH in cooperation with the German Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) and has a special focus on Metropolitan Regions:
Is the Institutional Formation of Metropolitan Regions a Formula for Economic Success?
Scholars with new research results on this issue are especially encouraged to submit contributions to the conference.
In the evening of December 11, a special Policy Session will be held on Issues of Metropolitan Governance.
