Prof. Antje Bruns is acting Secretary General of ARL (since August 2024) and holds a full professorship for Spatial Transformations at Leibniz Universität Hannover. She took over the position, because she believes that the ARL has an important role to play in steering and enabling the transformation towards sustainable spatial development.
Antje has a profound expertise on environmental governance and spatial planning that is underpinned by an interest in inter- and transdisciplinary co-production of knowledge. Trained as a geographer (PhD Kiel), her research is about political geographies of socio-natures. How nature becomes a resource and how socio-natures are governed plays an important role in her work. Another research strand is on climate adaptation and contested practices of spatial future-making.
In 2015 she was appointed as full professor (W3) for Governance and Sustainability at Trier University, where she successfully established the Governance & Sustainability Lab. Prior to this appoint Antje was Assistant Professor for Climate Adaptation in the Geography Department of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2012 to 2015). She is member of several national and international networks, acts as co-editor for geographical journals and is editor of the book series “Kritische Nachhaltigkeits- und Transformationsforschung” with transcript.
