In a joint appointment procedure, the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association (ARL) and Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) are seeking to fill the position of

Secretary General (m/f/d) of the ARL

as of 1 March 2024, initially for a fixed term of five years. A repeat appointment is possible. The Secretary General is also a member of the ARL Executive Committee.

The position is combined with a permanent University Professorship (m/f/d) of Salary Scale W3 NBesO for Territorial Transformation at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Science at LUH.

The future holder of the position will be appointed as a Professor at Leibniz University Hannover and will be granted leave of absence to take over the position as a Secretary General of the ARL (Jülich Model).

We are looking for a leader to direct the ARL – together with the president and three vice-presidents – and to manage the Headquarters in Hannover. This leader is required to consistently and strategically develop the ARL network, sustainably safeguard and expand the ARL’s interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary character, open up new socially relevant topics in research and practice, stimulate research focused on criteria of excellence, and provide a wide range of advice and consulting for politics and society. The position calls for high standards of strategic management, work and leadership style, and innovation and planning skills. It also requires high levels of resilience and above-average commitment. In-depth specialist knowledge and links to practice in the fields of spatial development and spatial planning, also in an international context, are preconditions, as are very good German and English language skills.
