Infrastruktur in einer mobilen Gesellschaft

Die Standortwahl und die Ausstattung von Infrastruktureinrichtungen steht in vielfältigen und vor allem wechselseitigen Beziehungen zur Entwicklung der Mobilität. Verkehrliche Erreichbarkeit und zunehmend auch die Anbindungsmöglichkeiten an moderne und hochleistungsfähige Informations- und Kommunikationstechniken bestimmen in hohem Umfang die Attraktivität und damit auch die Standortqualität von Infrastruktureinrichtungen. Am Beispiel des (großflächigen) Einzelhandels, der Tourismusinfrastruktur und der inzwischen multifunktionalen Verkehrsdrehscheibe Bahnhof werden die derzeit aktuellen Trends bei der Standortentwicklung großräumig bedeutsamer Infrastrukturen aufgezeigt.

Both in terms of the choice of location and the level of provision, infrastructure has to be seen as being in a multi-faceted and reciprocal relationship to the development of mobility. To a very significant degree, the appeal of an element of infrastructure – and thus also its locational quality – is determined by its accessibility, and increasingly by the scope it provides for connecting up to modern, high-performance information and communication technologies. In this collection of papers, large-footprint retail sites, tourism infrastructure and railway stations – today frequently multifunctional mobility hubs – serve to illustrate contemporary trends in the development of major elements of infrastructure with a significance for the wider region.
