Leibniz-Forschungsnetzwerk „Wissen für nachhaltige Entwicklung“
Als übergreifende gesellschaftliche Zielvorstellung ist Nachhaltigkeit heute auf allen Ebenen fest verankert. Nachhaltigkeit strebt nach der bestmöglichen Daseinsqualität für alle, wobei die dauerhafte Realisierbarkeit gewährleistet sein muss. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat die Weltgemeinschaft zuletzt 2015 mit den UN-Nachhaltigkeitszielen eine Agenda für die Bewältigung der dringendsten Herausforderungen der Menschheit vereinbart. Die Bundesregierung verfolgt eine entsprechende Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie, und auch in Ländern und Kommunen liegen diese nahezu flächendeckend vor.
Für die praktische Umsetzung kommt den Wissenschaften allerdings eine Schlüsselrolle zu: Sie liefern vielfältige Erkenntnisse für das Verständnis der komplexen Systeme (z. B. Energie, Mobilität, Ernährung, Wohnen, Gesundheit) und insbesondere auch der Anforderungen an Prozesse ihrer Veränderung. Wissenschaftler*innen entwickeln zusammen mit Akteur*innen aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft neues Wissen und Lösungsansätze für soziale, ökologische und technologische Transformationen.
Um diese Rolle wirksam ausfüllen zu können müssen daher die Rahmenbedingungen und Institutionen der Wissenschaft ebenso wie ihre Theorien und Methoden reflektiert und gezielt weiterentwickelt werden. Das Leibniz-Forschungsnetzwerk „Wissen für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ unterstützt diesen Prozess und organisiert hierfür Summer Schools, Syntheseworkshops, Zukunftsdialoge sowie internationale Konferenzen.

Aus der Nachhaltigkeits-Perspektive: Forschungsnetzwerk „Leibniz Sustain“ veröffentlicht zwei Positionspapiere
Das Leibniz-Forschungsnetzwerk „Wissen für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ unterstützt Forschende seit seiner Gründung vor drei Jahren bei der Beantwortung von mit den UN-Nachhaltigkeitszielen verbundenen theoretischen und methodischen Fragen. Es bündelt und vernetzt entsprechende Forschungskompetenzen in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft und leistet einen Beitrag zur Wirksamkeit und Sichtbarkeit einer Forschung für nachhaltige Entwicklung. Zu diesem Zweck organisiert das Netzwerk in Kooperation mit weiteren Leibniz-Einrichtungen und externen Partnern aus Wissenschaft und Praxis Syntheseworkshops, internationale Konferenzen und Summer Schools, sowie Zukunftsdialoge mit einflussreichen Persönlichkeiten aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft.

The Leibniz Research Network Knowledge for Sustainable Development invites for the Summer School
Doing Justice! Doing Just This! Understanding justice in transdisciplinary and transformative research,
in Dresden, Germany, June 28th – 29th 2023.
Transdisciplinary and transformative research (TTR) seeks to address pressing and complex sustainability problems by bringing together academic and societal partners. In doing so, TTR aims to co-produce new types of knowledge and transform the ways in which such knowledge is used in society. However, TTR might as well reproduce or create new social, economic and environmental injustices if it lacks concepts and methods to reflect upon and address justice. These concern all stages and aspects of the research process - from preliminary ideation to ex-post evaluation, from project management to practical experimentation, from interaction formats to process designs. If unattended, their diverse justice implications may run the risk of ultimately exacerbating divides e.g. within or between species (non-/human), social groups (gender, class, ethnicity, religion, age, ability, etc.), urban and rural communities, or between the Global South and the Global North.

SUMMER SCHOOL “Generating impact in complex natural resource contexts: co-design and development of transdisciplinary research projects”

This 1.5 week summer school will be all about collaboration and co-designing. A focus will be on tropical coastal settings as examples of urgent sustainability challenges and complex social-ecological systems.
