We are inviting researchers, policymakers and practitioners to our 2026 congress:

European Regional Policy in Times of Transition
📍 Cologne, Germany
📅 1–2 October 2026

At a time of overlapping green, digital, geopolitical and demographic transformations, European regional policy is facing growing pressure to reconcile competitiveness, cohesion and spatial justice. Persistent territorial inequalities, debates on the future of EU Cohesion Policy after 2027, and the uneven spatial impacts of sectoral policies raise urgent questions for regional development across Europe.

The congress will provide a platform for interdisciplinary exchange on these challenges and explore future directions for European regional policy and territorial cohesion.

Keynote speakers include Andrés Rodríguez-Pose and Rachel Lancry Beaumont.

Alongside keynote lectures and panel discussions, the programme features parallel thematic sessions, networking opportunities and an optional walking tour exploring “Cologne in Europe”.

Registration is open until 18 August 2026: ARL Congress 2026 - European Regional Policy in Times of Transition
